Break out the orange... it's elk hunting time! Levi, his dad, and his little brother all had spike elk tags for the hunt this year. So we ditched the city life for the weekend and went down to hunt with his family.

We hunted for two days all along the black hills (That's probably not the right or real name, but I don't know! All I know is that we were close to Tropic so I got to shower each night... Yey!) We covered a lot of ground and I had a hard time keeping up with Levi, but it was so much fun!
There were elk tracks ALL over these ridges. Levi and I were tracking a couple through here and about 50 yards up ahead from where we were, we heard a bull elk bugle. It was so thick down in there that we couldn't see it... but it was SO CLOSE! I had never heard one bugle that close before, it was really cool. I just wish we could have found the little bugger to get a better look.

This picture shows a little better how high up we had hiked to get on top of this ridge. (Don't worry mom... I didn't fall.)

These quakies were kinda fun to fight through. We were skirting the edges to get over to the next ridge and in some places there were fallen trees that we could walk across. (Instead of climbing all the way down... then hiking all the way back up.) I would have taken a picture, but I was having a hard enough time keeping mySELF from falling... let alone our camera.

We didn't end up getting our spike. :( But we did get to go out and stay at the LeFevre ranch for the night and ride horses the next morning before we had to leave. It was so nice to just get away from the city for the weekend and get to go home. Even though we broke down in Richfield coming back up... we both agreed... it was still the
best weekend!!!

Dang! I wish you would have gotten some jerky to share;) Hope your tranny is fixed soon!
I was also hoping for some jerky, but I'm wondering why you didn't post a picture and blog about your hand on that trip? That was a great story.
