Levi and I both drew out for the deer hunt this year, so we headed down to Kanab last weekend to try and fill those little buggers. It was such a strange hunt this year with the weather and all. It had been so hot leading all the way up until the start of the hunt so there were not near as many deer down as there has been in the past...Also... the weather was INSANE! First it would rain, then the sun would come out without a cloud in the sky... then not 10 min. later it was raining/sleeting like crazy! So weird. Anyways... we loaded up the horses and all of us in the hunting party (Dad, me, Levi, Chad, Layne and Logan), headed out to some spots that you can't get by vehicle. :) (those are some of my favorite kinds)
This is where we were most of the time. That's Kanab down there and the K hill (middle left). We chased a bunch of bucks around up there on the horses. It was so much fun just to be out there. We saw some monsters, but monsters are monsters for a reason... If you're not already looking through a scope when you see them... you're not going to get a shot. They are out of there. Levi did have one turn broadside and look right at him... had the shot all lined up... pulled the trigger and... click! Safety was on. He was so mad. He kept saying he didn't deserve another shot... he'd blown his... but on the ride back in, he did get a chance to redeem himself. We ended up bringing this little beauty home. He's not a bad little 4 point... plus he's definetly the biggest one Levi has ever bagged. I'm hoping this may be some leverage in convincing Levi to come to Kanab for the hunt in future years as well. :)
We brought the meat back up to Ogden with us and will be attempting to jerky it ourselves. (I don't say attempting loosly... it will be an absolute miracle if we don't botch the whole opperation.) I'll keep you posted on the matter... it should be interesting. :)

You won't botch the jerky. Chad just jerkied (sp?) his deer by himself a couple weeks ago and it turned out great! Enjoy!:)
Thanks sis... I think we did ok... we're hanging it all tomorrow. I'll let you know what the verdict is. :)
