And the jerky was hung by the tools with care.

We did it!!! We actually got the deer meat jerkied (sp?) and hung! ALL BY OURSELVES!!! That's right.... ALL BY OURSELVES!!! Now, you'll have to excuse my excitement.... but neither of us had ever done that by ourselves before... and Levi had never done it at all!!! So, scarily enough, I was the "expert" in this little endevour. In case your wondering why this was scary... here are a few of the conversations that followed:
  • Levi: "Where do I start?"
  • Sam: (flipping the deer leg over and over) "Um.... probably with it laying this way?"
  • Levi: "Why's that?"
  • Sam: "Umm... cause I think that looks more like it did when Dad does it."
  • Levi: "Am I cutting it right?"
  • Sam: "Is it coming off the bone ok?"
  • Levi: "Yeah."
  • Sam: (help me expression on my face) "Then... sure!"
Levi, cutting all the meat away from the bone.
I was trying to cut the meat into strips. (Trying being the key word here.)

My poor little cutting bord worked like a champ!

Look at that haul! (The tin-foil wrapped stuff is the BACKSTRAP!!!)

Haha... I'd say we did pretty good for our first time flying solo! This was the only spot out of the way we could come up with in our shed to hang the meat! Levi has never had to wait for jerky to dry, (they've always used a dehydrater) and he is worse than a kid waiting for Christmas. I think I may have to hide the shed keys to keep him from eating it too early. Seriously.

How sweet! Mason didn't get a deer this year, but lets hope with the best! Mmmmm, jerky!

Ours is almost gone. Seriously. With Chad, Me, and 3 jerky-loving kids in the house (yes, Kaycee LOVES it too, in fact whenever she catches one of us eating some she starts rocking back and forth and grunting:))....it doesn't last long!:(
