In case any of you are wondering what the purpose of this post is... there is none. Cut and dry, it's that simple. If there was it would be something like, I'm incredibly board at work and don't have my book to study from today. (there... it now has a purpose.)
Anyways, Levi is constantly making fun of my random facts knowledge. I am not even going to deny the fact that I LOVE random trivia, facts, etc...I do. I love them. I have no idea why... i just do. ESPECIALLY if there's a holiday coming up. I love to find out all the little querky facts, origins, myths about them.
case in point: HALLOWEEN. The ancient Celts thought that spirits and ghosts wondered the streets on all Hallows Eve so they began wearing masks and costumes in order to not be recognized as human.
I love stuff like that!
So in honor of my complete and utter admiration for random facts and trivia here are some of my favorites!!!!
- The first item to have a bar-code on it was a pack of wrigley's gum.
- The city of Portland in Oregon was named after a coin toss in 1844. Heads for Portland and tails for Boston.
- A group of ravens is called a murder. (I do NOT want to know how they go that name, but it does support my theory that birds are evil.)
- If you multiply 111,111,111 by 111,111,111 you get 12,345,678,987,654,321. (you know you want to try it.)
- Walt Disney was afraid of mice.
- Apple Computers was named because the founder Steve Jobs, threatened to call his company Apple Computers (his favorite fruit) if the other colleagues didn't suggest a better name by 5 O'clock. (Apparently no one did)
- -J.K. Rowling (Harry Potter series) is the first person to become a billionaire (U.S. dollars) by writing books.
- American cars honk in the tune of F.
- The electric chair was invented by a dentist. (not surprising)
- Every continent starts with the same letter it ends with. (I guess they're counting North & South America as just "America")
- A duck's quack doesn't echo.
- Each king in a deck of playing cards represents a great king from history: Spades - King David, Hearts - Charlemagne, Clubs - Alexander the Great, Diamonds - Julius Caesar.
- Pinnochio is italian for pine head.
- The nursery rhyme Ring Around the Rosey is a rhyme about the bubonic plague. Infected people with the plague would get red circular sores (Ring around the Rosey...). These sores would smell very bad so people would hide flowers on their bodies in an attempt to mask the smell ("pocket full of posies..."). People who died from the plague would be burned to reduce the spread of the disease ("ashes, ashes, we all fall down").
I absolutely love that last one. See... interesting right?
(Don't judge me.)

hahahahaha! I love this post. Seriously I do. You crack me up! Glad you found something "productive"(?) to do at WORK! Oh, and I totally tried the multiplication thing...sweet:)
Interesting...
That last one is so gross!
Hello Sam, I loved the spot for the picture too. That's why I picked it, it just fit.
Graydin is my son. In June of 2008 I got pregnant and on November 30, 2008 I went into pre-term labor. At about 22-23 weeks I gave birth to our son. He was too small to make it and only lived for a short time. He is buried in Kanab.
You don't have to worry about asking, I like to talk about him. I love him. :)
Hope you are doing well.
I love your randomness Sam. You have to go on a game show some day. :) Oh, and I think Walt Disney and I would get along.
